IBREA is the proud sponsor of the International Brain HSP Olympiad and Brain Education Conference (IHSPO).

 The IHSPO was created:

  • out of the necessity for a new Olympiad that fits the 21st century — the century of the brain.
  • to emphasize the unlimited possibility of the brain and foster new 21st century talent, which manifests the abilities associated with integrated brain utilization.
  • to raise awareness that the brain is the key to recovery of humanity.

The IHSPO tests competitors not for knowledge, but for functioning of neural systems and faculties. The Brain Window event tests for the ability to perceive colors without ordinary visual sensory information, through heightened sensory perception. Contestants are challenged to perceive one of three color cards that are sealed in an envelope. It is theorized that this faculty arises when the brain’s submodules are integrated in their functioning. The Speed Brain event tests for the ability to recognize and remember visual cues (colors, letters, symbols) in a fraction of a second. The HSP Gym event challenges participants to hold demanding postures for extended periods, using motor systems and balance of the two hemispheres. For Body Sense Perception, contestants use subtle body senses to identify liquids (water, juice or milk) without visual information.

The only brain Olympiad in the world, the IHSPO was first held in Korea in 2005, with 30,000 participants from three countries participating. In 2006 the second IHSPO attracted 50,000 participants from six countries.
The IHSPO has received sponsorship from the Korea Committee of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO); the Ministries of Science and Technology, and Education and Human Resources Development of the Korean government; and the Korea Science and Engineering Foundation.

The Brain Education Conference brings together educators, neuroscientists, and others to present new ideas and findings about how to better apply our brain potential. In 2007, presenters at the BE Conference included Mr. Ilchi Lee, who spoke about "Brain Education: a New Humanism," Dr. Kenneth Wesson on the topic of "Neuroscience of Learning," and Dr. Warrington Parker on "Brain Education: the Next Frontier in Learning."

The 5th Annual Brain HSP Olympiad & Brain Education Conference is tentatively scheduled for August 2009. We invite submissions for poster presentations or workshops. Poster abstracts or workshop proposal descriptions should be up limited to 300 words. Please contact Passion Jun M.D. at jun@ibrea.org.
